Boxed warning: risk of thyroid C-cell tumors. In rodent studies, GLP-1 medicines caused thyroid C-cell tumors. It is unknown whether they cause thyroid C-cell tumors, including medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC), in people. Do not use if you or a family member has had MTC, or if you have Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2). Tell your clinician about a lump or swelling in your neck, trouble swallowing, shortness of breath, or persistent hoarseness.
Common side effects include nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, stomach pain, and headache.
Serious side effects can include pancreatitis, gallbladder problems, low blood sugar (hypoglycemia, which is more likely with insulin or sulfonylureas), and kidney problems. Seek care right away for severe or persistent stomach pain.
This medication is not for use during pregnancy.
Results vary from person to person. A licensed clinician decides whether this treatment is right for you.
